Pakistan Cement Industry Posts 7% Growth in September, Exports Continue to Fall APCMA Report

APCMA Report Cement Consumption in Pakistan

APCMA Report Cement Consumption in Pakistan: The All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association (APCMA) has reported a positive trend in Pakistan’s cement industry for the month of September. According to the latest data, cement consumption in Pakistan increased by 7% during September, reaching 42.50 lakh tons, compared to the same month last year. This rise is mainly driven by strong local demand, although exports saw a noticeable decline.

Local Cement Consumption Sees Solid Growth

One of the most encouraging signs for the cement industry is the significant growth in local cement consumption, which jumped by 14.38%, reaching 34.18 lakh tons in September. This increase reflects improving domestic construction activity, including infrastructure development and private sector projects.

Analysts believe this growth is likely due to a combination of factors, including ongoing urban development and housing initiatives. Another contributing factor could be the gradual recovery of flood-hit areas where reconstruction is needed.

Cement Exports Decline by Over 15%

While local consumption showed impressive growth, cement exports fell by 15.25% in September, totaling 8.31 lakh tons. The decline in exports might be linked to challenges in international markets, shipping constraints, and rising global competition.

Export markets play a crucial role in the overall profitability of the cement sector, so this decline is a concern for manufacturers relying on international demand.

Strong Performance in the First Financial Quarter

Looking at the broader picture, cement consumption also showed strong growth in the first quarter of the financial year. Local cement consumption rose by 15.08%, reaching 95.73 thousand tons, while cement exports increased by an impressive 21%, totaling 25.89 lakh tons during the same period.

This quarterly growth indicates a healthy performance in both domestic and international markets. Despite the challenges seen in September’s export numbers.

APCMA Calls for Relief to Boost Cement Demand

In a statement, a spokesperson for the All Pakistan Cement Manufacturers Association highlighted the importance of supporting the industry through government incentives. The official emphasized that rehabilitation work is urgently required in flood-affected regions, which can further boost cement consumption.

The spokesperson urged the government to consider reducing duties and taxes on cement. Suggesting that such relief would encourage more construction activity and improve affordability for both public and private sector projects.
