Unconditional Cash Transfer, also known as the Benazir Kafalat Program, is the core program of the Benazir Income Support Program. It was launched in 2008. Since its inception, the Kafaalat initiative has grown to the point where it is now the largest single cash transfer program in the history of Pakistan. The long-term objective of the program is to provide cash assistance to deserving families, especially women, who are being affected by slow economic growth, food insecurity, and inflation.
The long-term objectives of the program were to empower women as well as eradicate extreme and chronic poverty. The Benazir Kafalat Program aimed to provide financial assistance to about ten million families. When the program was launched in 2008, the amount paid to the beneficiaries was 7500, gradually increasing to 10500 due to the current deficit. The amount paid to the beneficiaries in 2025 is now possible up to 13500, as many people have fallen on hard times due to today’s current situation and inflation. The sponsorship program amount has been increased by Rs. 10,000 to 13,500.
