Over 4,000 Births, 407 Deaths Registered via NADRA’s New Digital System Nationwide

Digital Birth and Death Registration System

The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) has taken a major step toward modernizing civil registration in Pakistan. In collaboration with provincial governments, NADRA has launched a Digital Birth and Death Registration system in hospitals and health centers across the country. This system is designed to make the registration process more efficient, transparent, and faster than ever before.

A Step Toward Modernization

Following the instructions of the Federal Interior Minister, NADRA is actively working to improve the country’s birth and death registration system. This initiative is a part of the National Biometric and Registration Policy Framework, which was approved by the Prime Minister of Pakistan on January 1, 2025.

The new system is currently in its pilot phase, and once the necessary preparations are completed by provincial governments, it will implemented nationwide.

Pilot Project: Implementation in Over 50 Hospitals

As part of the pilot project, NADRA has introduced this digital system in more than 50 hospitals and health centers across different provinces. Some of the key institutions include:

  • PIMS, CDA, and other Federal Government hospitals in Islamabad
  • Lady Acheson Hospital in Lahore
  • Bolan Medical College, DHQ, Sheik Zayed, Arya Hospitals in Quetta
  • DHQ Hospitals Haripur and Batkhela in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa
  • DHQ Hospital Mirpur in Azad Jammu and Kashmir
  • Shaheed Syed-ur-Rehman Hospital in Gilgit
  • Hospitals in Hyderabad and basic health centers in Matiari, Sindh

These facilities now have the ability to report births and deaths directly to NADRA through the automated system.

How the Digital System Works

The Digital Birth and Death Registration system works in a simple and efficient way:

  1. Hospitals and health centers report birth or death cases automatically to NADRA.
  2. NADRA then sends a notification via SMS and mobile app to the parents or legal heirs.
  3. Citizens can complete the registration process by:
    • Using the NADRA mobile app, or
    • Visiting the nearest Union Council (UC)

This digital reporting system ensures that no case goes unregistered and that data is shared in real-time between hospitals, NADRA, and Union Councils.

Early Results from the Pilot Phase

Since the pilot began, the system has already recorded:

  • 4,000 births
  • 407 deaths

These numbers show how effective the digital process has been in capturing vital events directly from healthcare facilities.

Digital Registration Now Active in Punjab Districts

In Punjab, the system is already being successfully implemented in three districts under the pilot project. Work is ongoing to expand it to the entire province, making the process easier for millions of residents.

Nationwide Expansion Underway

NADRA is working at a rapid pace to extend this system to all government and private hospitals across the country. By closely working with provincial governments, the aim is to ensure that every birth and death in Pakistan is digitally registered without delay or manual paperwork.

This will allow citizens from even remote areas to benefit from a smooth and transparent registration process.
