Government hospital staff salary demand
In a significant development, government hospital employees across Sindh have announced a province-wide strike, starting tomorrow. As part of the protest, all Outpatient Departments (OPDs) and hospital offices will remain completely closed, while only emergency services will continue. The protest is being led by the Grand Health Alliance (GHA), highlighting the Government hospital staff salary demand and calling for immediate action from the provincial government on multiple long-standing issues.
Why Are Government Hospital Employees Protesting?
The strike stems from several key demands that government health workers have raised repeatedly but claim have been ignored. Their main demands include:
- A 50% increase in severance allowance.
- A 70% raise in salaries for all permanent staff from Grade 1 to Grade 22.
- Timely payment of group insurance and the benevolent fund.
- An immediate end to pension deductions.
Employees argue that despite the rising cost of living and increased workload, their financial benefits have not kept pace. Many also complain that delayed payments and unfair deductions have added to their financial stress.

Who Is Leading the Strike?
The strike was officially announced after a meeting of the Grand Health Alliance (GHA) held at Civil Hospital Karachi. The meeting was attended by leaders from several major healthcare organizations, including:
- Pakistan Medical Association (PMA)
- Young Doctors Association (YDA)
- Young Nurses Association (YNA)
- Allied Health Professionals Association Sindh
- Sindh Paramedical Staff
- Pakistan Paramedical Staff (041 and 2076)
- Young Paramedical Staff
- Sindh Employees Alliance
The Chairman of the Sindh Employees Alliance, Haji Muhammad Ashraf Khaskheli, and other leaders emphasized that this strike is a united move by all government hospital employees in the province. They made it clear that the protest would continue until their legitimate demands were accepted.
What Services Will Be Affected?
According to the announcement, all OPDs and administrative offices in government hospitals across Sindh will be closed starting tomorrow. However, to avoid risking lives, emergency departments will remain functional.
Patients relying on routine check-ups, minor procedures, and outpatient care are advised to make alternative arrangements, as healthcare delivery will be severely disrupted during the strike.

Unity Among Health Workers
One of the most notable aspects of this strike is the solidarity among various hospital staff categories, from doctors and nurses to paramedics and administrative employees. Their joint decision to boycott duties reflects a strong sense of unity and determination.
The leaders stated that they are prepared to make any sacrifice necessary to protect their rights and that the strike will continue indefinitely until the government takes concrete and positive steps.
What Happens Next?
The ball is now in the court of the Sindh government. The protest has placed tremendous pressure on the authorities to respond quickly to avoid a collapse in routine public healthcare services.
If the demands are met, normal hospital services may resume. However, if the government fails to act, the Government Hospital Employees Strike in Sindh could escalate, potentially affecting even more services and causing distress to thousands of patients across the province.
