Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif recently visited Murree, where she Inauguration of Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre, marking a significant milestone in improving healthcare facilities for the people of Murree and the surrounding areas. During her visit, she made several important announcements related to health, tourism, and infrastructure development. These initiatives are part of her broader vision to transform Murree into a modern, well-equipped hill station while preserving its natural beauty.
Inauguration of Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre Muree
The newly launched Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre in Murree is now fully operational, offering advanced heart treatment, including cardiac surgeries and bypass operations. This is the first facility of its kind in the region, addressing a long-standing gap in local healthcare.
Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her satisfaction over the successful treatment of five patients at the center and praised the medical staff, including doctors, nurses, and health department officials. She highlighted that the centre is fully stocked with essential heart medications, ensuring patients no longer need to travel to Rawalpindi for urgent cardiac care.
She shared that her commitment to this project came after realizing that time-sensitive heart conditions were often fatal due to the lack of local facilities. The successful completion of this centre is a fulfillment of the promise she made upon taking the oath as Chief Minister.
Strengthening Health Infrastructure in Murree and Kotli Satian
In addition to the cardiology centre, several other healthcare projects were announced:
- A 100-bed hospital will be constructed in Kotli Satian to serve local residents with modern medical facilities.
- The long-overdue upgrade of Simli Hospital has been initiated for the first time since 1930, as the current condition of the hospital is poor and lacks critical care units.
- “Murray Nawaz Health Clinics” are being established in place of basic health units, aimed at reducing the burden on major hospitals.
- Mobile clinics and field hospitals are already functioning in remote areas of Murree and across Punjab, providing doorstep healthcare services.
- A free shuttle bus service between Simli Hospital and the Nawaz Sharif Cardiology Centre will make access to specialized treatment easier for the public.
- Another cardiology centre is also planned within Murree city, and the land has already been identified for its construction.

Revamping Tourism and Infrastructure
Maryam Nawaz Sharif also introduced several projects to boost tourism and enhance the city’s infrastructure:
- A multi-billion rupee upgradation of Murree’s historic Mall Road has been planned to restore its charm and make it more tourist-friendly.
- Biodiversity parks will be developed at PIA Park, Karshi Park, and Bansara Gali, promoting eco-tourism and environmental conservation.
- The launch of a glass train/ART service between Rawalpindi and Murree was also announced to provide a scenic and comfortable travel experience for visitors.
- A free electric bus service will be introduced in Murree, specifically free for students, women, senior citizens, and persons with disabilities.
- A special tourism force, under the leadership of Senior Provincial Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, has been formed to maintain law and order and assist tourists.
Administrative Improvements and Local Empowerment
Maryam Nawaz Sharif shared that although Murree had been declared a district in the past, the administrative offices were still functioning from Rawalpindi. Her government took swift action, and within just eight months, control of key departments like police, traffic, health, education, and tourism was handed over to the local Murree administration.
She also mentioned that major road infrastructure has been completed under the current government, further improving connectivity and access to remote areas.

Maryam Nawaz Sharif’s Emotional Connection with Murree
During her speech, Maryam Nawaz Sharif expressed her deep emotional bond with Murree, calling it her second home after Lahore. She reflected on her childhood spent in the serene environment of the hill station and shared that Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, her father and PML-N President, also considers Murree as home.
She emphasized that politics is the name of public service, and her commitment to Murree’s development is a reflection of this belief.
Commitment to Cleanliness and Natural Beauty
Maryam Nawaz Sharif reiterated her government’s commitment to preserving the natural beauty of Murree. She vowed to:
- Demolish illegal structures
- Take action against land mafias
- Maintain cleanliness and greenery
Efforts by teams from PHA, WASA, and ‘Sothra’ Punjab have significantly improved the cleanliness and infrastructure of Murree, surprising many tourists, especially those from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Focus on Women’s Safety and Social Welfare
The Chief Minister made it clear that she would not tolerate any crimes against women in Punjab. She pledged to make the province safer and more inclusive, stating that Maryam Nawaz Sharif will not forgive anyone involved in violence or injustice against women.
