Karachi Cantt Railway Station Now Offers Free Wi-Fi

In a big step towards digital transformation and improved passenger services, Karachi Cantt Railway Station now offers free Wi-Fi. This initiative comes through a collaboration between Pakistan Railways and StormFiber, bringing modern connectivity to thousands of daily commuters.

Collaboration for Connectivity

The introduction of free Wi-Fi at Karachi Cantt Railway Station marks a significant move by Pakistan Railways to provide modern facilities to passengers. In partnership with StormFiber, a leading internet service provider, this service aims to enhance the overall travel experience for people using the railway network.

According to officials, the goal is to make waiting time at the station more productive and enjoyable. Passengers can now browse the internet, check emails, or stay connected with loved ones while waiting for their train completely free of cost.

تفصیلات کے مطابق پاکستان ریلوے اور اسٹارم فائبر کے اشتراک. سے کراچی کینٹ ریلوے سٹیشن پر مسافروں کیلئے مفت وائی فائی کا آغاز کیا گیا ہے۔

وفاقی وزیرِ ریلوے حنیف عباسی نے کہا ہے. کہ کراچی کینٹ سٹیشن پر فری انٹرنیٹ کی سہولت مسافروں کیلئے دستیاب ہوگی. یہ اقدام ریلوے میں جدید سہولتوں کی فراہمی کی اہم پیشرفت ہے۔

وزیر ریلوے نے کہا کہ مسافروں کو ٹیکنالوجی کے ذریعے آسانیاں فراہم کر رہے ہیں. سٹارم فائبر کا کہنا ہے کہ مسافروں کے لیے انتظار کے اوقات کو خوشگوار اور بامقصد بنا رہے ہیں۔

گزشتہ روز کراچی چیمبر آف کامرس اینڈ انڈسٹری میں تاجروں و صنعتکاروں سے خطاب کرتے ہوئے. وزیر ریلوے نے کہا تھا کہ 40 سٹیشنز پر وائی فائی سہولت مہیا کی جا رہی ہے. 155 سٹیشنز کو سولرائز کرنے جا رہے ہیں. اور 60 فیصد ہو چکے ہیں جبکہ کراچی کے 27 سٹیشن سولرائز ہونے کے اقدامات ہو رہے ہیں۔

انہوں نے کہا کہ ایشیائی ترقیاتی بینک کے 2ارب کی فنانسنگ سے کراچی تا روہڑی ریل ٹریک کو بہتر بنانے کا کام شروع کیا جارہا ہے. جس سے سفری مسافت 4گھنٹے کم ہو جائے گی. کراچی سے روہڑی تک 480کلو میٹر ٹریک کو بہتر کیا جائے گا۔

Minister’s Statement on the Initiative

Federal Minister for Railways, Hanif Abbasi, shared his thoughts on the launch, calling it an important step towards modernizing the railway sector.

“We are using technology to make travel more convenient for passengers,” he said. “The launch of free internet at Karachi Cantt Station is part of our broader plan to improve railway services across the country.”

The minister emphasized that providing digital services like free Wi-Fi is essential in today’s world, where connectivity has become a basic need.

Enhancing the Passenger Experience

For many travelers, especially those on long journeys or waiting during delays, internet access can be a major comfort. StormFiber officials mentioned that they aim to make passenger waiting time pleasant and meaningful, turning the station into a more commuter-friendly space.

This facility allows travelers to access information, entertainment, and communication tools, creating a better overall experience.

Wi-Fi Expansion and Solarization Projects

While speaking to members of the Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Hanif Abbasi shared more about the long-term development plans of Pakistan Railways.

  • Free Wi-Fi will be provided at 40 railway stations across the country.
  • Solarization of 155 stations is in progress, with 60% of the work already completed.
  • In Karachi alone, 27 railway stations are being solarized, which will reduce energy costs and support green energy goals.

These efforts are part of a broader transformation plan to modernize infrastructure, cut operational costs, and adopt sustainable practices.

Upgrading the Karachi–Rohri Rail Track

In addition to digital advancements, Pakistan Railways is also focusing on physical infrastructure. The Minister announced that with 2 billion PKR funding from the Asian Development Bank (ADB), work is beginning to upgrade the 480-kilometer rail track between Karachi and Rohri.

Once completed, this improvement will reduce travel time by four hours, offering passengers a faster and more comfortable journey. The upgraded track will also boost cargo movement, which is vital for the economy.
