Mamata Program Supports 1.3 Million Pregnant Women
In a major move to improve maternal and child health across Sindh, Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah has approved the expansion of the Mamata Program, officially known as the Maternal and Child Support Program (MCSP), to seven additional districts. With this expansion, the Mamata Program supports 1.3 Million Pregnant Women and lactating mothers, as it will now operate in 22 districts across the province, aiming to reach them by the end of 2027.
What is the Mamata Program?
The Mamata Program is a social protection initiative launched by the Sindh government to support pregnant and lactating women through financial assistance and access to integrated healthcare services. It is designed to reduce maternal and infant mortality rates, improve nutrition, and ensure safe pregnancies and deliveries in underserved communities.
The program uses a conditional cash transfer model, meaning that financial support is provided when women meet specific health-related milestones, such as attending prenatal checkups, delivering at health facilities, and receiving postnatal care.
