PIC Sehat Card Suspension
The Health Card Program has been a major lifeline for thousands of patients in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, providing free medical treatment at public and private hospitals. However, the program is now facing serious challenges, as one of the province’s top medical facilities, the PIC Sehat Card Suspension, has been announced, with the hospital confirming it will stop offering treatment under the health card from October 1.
This decision comes after months of financial delays and unpaid dues by State Life Insurance Corporation, the managing body responsible for settling payments to hospitals under the program.
PIC to Suspend Health Card Services from October 1
According to a letter issued by the Peshawar Institute of Cardiology, the hospital has informed State Life Insurance that it will no longer provide treatment under the Health Card Program starting October 1, 2025.
The hospital cited non-payment of dues as the reason behind the decision. These unpaid bills have now crossed Rs 1.5 billion, causing severe disruptions in hospital operations.

Financial Crisis Affecting Hospital Operations
The PIC administration stated that due to these unpaid amounts, the hospital is struggling to maintain its supply of medicines, equipment, and essential services. Despite repeated communication, State Life Insurance has not responded with any commitment for payment or even attempted to renew its agreement with the hospital.
This ongoing financial pressure is putting a burden not only on the hospital staff and management but, more importantly, on the patients who rely on free treatment through the health card.
Provincial Government’s Role in the Crisis
On the other hand, State Life Insurance is also facing its own financial hurdles. The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa provincial government has not released Rs 12 billion in dues that are owed to the insurance company.
Without these funds, State Life has been unable to clear hospital bills, including the massive amount owed to PIC. The delay in fund transfers has created a chain reaction, affecting hospitals, doctors, and ultimately, patients.

Health Department Acknowledges the Problem
Officials from the KP Health Department have acknowledged the issue, confirming that the province is facing financial challenges. They stated that efforts are underway to release the necessary funds and ensure the Health Card Program continues without interruption.
However, there is still no confirmed date on when the pending dues will be cleared or when the new agreements with hospitals will be signed.

The decision by PIC to withdraw from the Health Card Program is a major blow to cardiac patients, especially those who cannot afford private treatment. PIC is one of the most trusted and well-equipped heart hospitals in the region, and its withdrawal may force patients to:
