This decision was taken in a meeting held in Multan, in which Secretary Agriculture Iftikhar Ali Sahu presented a detailed review of the situation.

Flood and rain situation in Punjab

Crops have suffered heavy damage due to heavy rains and floods in different parts of Punjab. The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a warning of rising water levels in the Chenab, Sutlej, and Ravi rivers, due to which the risk of flooding has increased in the upper districts of Punjab. The Meteorological Department has also issued an alert of heavy rains in Islamabad, Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, and Gilgit-Baltistan within 12 to 24 hours.

PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia said that 20,000 cusecs of water is already flowing at the Chenab head Marala, while the water level is also expected to increase in the Sutlej and Ravi. In these circumstances, the government’s immediate and effective action has become very necessary.
