Punjab Green Credit Program
The Punjab Green Credit Program is creating a real impact on the roads and in the environment. Launched under the leadership of Punjab Environment Secretary Salwat Saeed, this initiative is rapidly encouraging people to shift from traditional fuel-based transport to electric alternatives, especially e-bikes.
Let’s take a closer look at how this program is changing the landscape of transportation across the province.
A Big Jump in E-Bike Registrations
According to a report by Express News, the Punjab Environment Protection Agency has confirmed a noticeable rise in e-bike registrations. Over the past eight months, a total of 1,248 e-bikes have been registered under the Punjab Green Credit Program. What’s more impressive is that 755 of these e-bikes were registered in just August 2025.
This sharp rise reflects growing public interest in eco-friendly mobility, as well as the effectiveness of the government’s incentive scheme.

Attractive Financial Incentives for E-Bike Owners
One of the biggest reasons behind the success of the Punjab Green Credit Program is the financial support it offers to citizens.
Here’s how it works:
- First Installment: When a citizen purchases and registers an e-bike under the program, they receive Rs. 50,000 directly in their bank account or mobile wallet.
- Second Installment: To receive an additional Rs. 50,000, the e-bike owner must drive 6,000 kilometers within 6 months. The distance traveled must be uploaded and verified through the Green Credit mobile app.
In total, the program provides Rs. 100,000 in financial assistance per citizen, making electric two-wheelers much more affordable and accessible.

Cleaner Air, Quieter Roads
According to Sajid Bashir, spokesperson of the Punjab Environment Agency, the shift to e-bikes is bringing several benefits:
- Reduction in noise pollution: E-bikes are quiet and reduce sound disturbances in busy urban areas.
- Lower air pollution: Since e-bikes do not emit smoke, they help reduce harmful emissions in the atmosphere.
- Less traffic pressure: E-bikes take up less space on roads, which helps ease traffic congestion in crowded cities.
These changes are not just good for the environment; they’re also improving the quality of life for everyone.
A Greener Vision for the Future
The Punjab government has set a bold target: by the year 2030, 30% of all transportation in the province should be electric. This goal aligns with global climate targets and supports long-term environmental sustainability.
Programs like the Punjab Green Credit Program are paving the way for this transition. By supporting citizens financially and making electric transport more accessible, the government is moving closer to its clean energy goals.
