Punjab Schools Closed: Floods have badly affected parts of Sialkot district, forcing the closure of dozens of schools. According to Deputy Commissioner Sialkot Saba Asghar Ali, a total of 80 government schools will remain closed till September 10, 2025, due to floodwater entering school premises. This decision has been taken in consultation with the School Education Department to ensure the safety and security of children and staff.

Why Sialkot Schools Closed Till September 10

The heavy floods in Sialkot have damaged several school buildings and left standing water inside many classrooms and compounds. Authorities confirmed that the presence of water makes it unsafe for students to attend classes. To avoid any risk, the district administration has decided to temporarily suspend teaching activities in the affected institutions.

Areas and Schools Affected

The closure order includes 80 public schools across the district. Among them are several schools in Sialkot Tehsil, while schools in Daska and Pasrur Tehsils are also on the affected list. Teaching in these schools will stay suspended until floodwater is drained and the premises are declared safe for use.

Closure Timeline

  • Duration: Schools remain closed until 10 September 2025.
  • Scope: The decree applies only to public (government) schools.
  • Private Schools: All private schools in the district have already reopened since 5 September 2025.

Impact on Students and Parents

This unexpected closure has disrupted the teaching process, leaving students with several missed days. Parents may also face difficulties in arranging alternative study routines or childcare. However, officials stressed that children’s safety is the top priority, and temporary loss of classes is better than risking students’ wellbeing.

Steps Taken by Authorities

Deputy Commissioner Saba Asghar Ali assured parents that the district administration is actively working to clear floodwater and make schools functional again. Coordination with the School Education Department is underway, and schools will reopen only after safety checks are complete. Parents are urged to cooperate with authorities during this period.

Private vs. Public Schools

It is important to note that the closure order applies only to government schools. Since private school premises were found safe, they resumed operations on September 5. This has created a difference in the academic schedule of government and private sector students.

When Will Schools Reopen?

According to the official notification, the reopening date is September 10. However, if water removal and safety measures take longer, parents will be informed about any extensions. The district administration has promised timely updates to avoid confusion.
