Punjab student fee waiver
In a major step toward supporting flood-affected families, the Punjab student fee waiver has been formally recommended by Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to waive the registration and semester fees for students of government colleges and universities. The move aims to ease the financial burden on families devastated by recent floods and ensure that no student’s education is disrupted due to a lack of funds.
The final decision will be taken after the Chief Minister’s approval, but the proposal has already generated significant hope among thousands of affected students and their families.
Education Minister’s Proposal to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz
In light of the recent floods that have severely impacted various parts of Punjab, Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has taken a compassionate and forward-thinking initiative. He has officially proposed that registration and semester fees should be waived for students currently enrolled in public sector colleges and universities.
The proposal has been submitted to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz for final approval. If accepted, this would mark a significant relief for families who are already struggling with loss of homes, livelihoods, and daily essentials.

Why This Fee Waiver Matters
The primary goal of this initiative is to:
- Support Students: Enable flood-affected students to continue their education without worrying about fees.
- Support Families: Ease the financial pressure on parents who have lost income or property due to floods.
- Prevent Dropouts: Avoid a rise in student dropouts from colleges and universities due to financial constraints.
Speaking about the proposal, Rana Sikandar Hayat stated,
“This step will directly benefit students and families affected by the floods. The government is committed to ensuring no child’s education is disrupted.”
