Historic Fuel Price Adjustment in Pakistan Petrol & Diesel Climb by Rs4 Amid Global Trends

The latest petrol & diesel prices have increased

The federal government has significantly increased the prices of petrol and diesel, while reducing the price of LPG, effective from the beginning of October 2025. According to a statement issued by the Finance Division, these decisions have been taken in light of the recommendations of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA) and the concerned ministries. The latest petrol & diesel prices have increased, and this price hike will be effective for the next 15 days.

This hike comes at a time when the common man is already under the pressure of inflation, and daily expenses are increasing rapidly.

Petrol price hike

The government has increased the price of petrol by Rs 4.07 per litre, after which the new price has become Rs 268.68 per litre. Earlier, the price of petrol was Rs 264.61 per litre.

Petrol is mostly used in motorcycles, rickshaws, and small private vehicles, which are generally used by middle and low-income people. Therefore, this increase in the price of petrol will directly affect the monthly budget of the common man.

Increase in the price of High Speed Diesel (HSD)

The price of High Speed Diesel, which is used for heavy transport, trains and agricultural machinery, has been increased by Rs 4.04 per litre. Now the new price has been fixed at Rs 276.81 per litre, which was earlier Rs 272.77.

The increase in the price of diesel will not only increase the cost of freight but will also have a negative impact on the agriculture sector, which may ultimately result in an increase in the prices of food and other basic commodities.

Details of taxes and levies

The government is not currently imposing GST on petroleum products, but heavy petroleum levy and customs duties are being collected.

A levy of Rs 80.52 per litre is applicable on petrol and high octane products, which also includes Rs 2.50 per litre CSL.

Diesel has been levied at Rs 79.50 per litre.

In addition, a customs duty of Rs 16-17 per litre is also applicable on both the products, whether imported or locally manufactured.

All these fees impact the overall prices, further increasing the burden of inflation on the public.

Potential Impact on the Public

The increase in petrol and diesel prices may further increase inflation, which may also lead to an increase in the prices of food and beverages, transport and other essential items. Low-income households will be particularly affected.

On the other hand, the reduction in LPG prices may prove to be a relief to domestic consumers to some extent, especially in areas where LPG is used as the primary fuel.

Conclusion: Public and expert reaction to price changes

According to experts, the recent increase in petrol and diesel prices may further accelerate the wave of inflation, while the shortage of LPG will reduce public pressure to some extent. What is needed is for the government to adopt transparency in pricing in the future and formulate effective policies to provide relief to the common man.

This combination of new petrol prices and an increase in diesel prices. A decrease in LPG prices has a mixed effect on the Pakistani economy and the people. The government needs to take people-friendly decisions to reduce the effects of inflation.
